Lumpy is constantly depicted as a caretaker for several characters, and sometimes non-anthropomorphic animals or objects, such as cows, his pet elephant, or an ear of giant corn.

Lumpy is a tall blue moose with mismatched antlers. His eyes are almost always crossed when he's idle and his teeth are often seen sticking from beneath his nose when wearing his standard expression. He is notably slimmer and taller than the rest of the Tree Friends. In general, Lumpy has a very unique design compared to most characters. He lacks a heart-shaped nose and has two visible nostrils in the place of it. He also lacks mitten-hands, as his hands are always seen possessing four-fingered digits. He also has fully circular pupils as opposed to baring a prominent wedge that resembles a Pac-Man shape.
