Behind the Screams is a bonus feature from the Happy Tree Friends Season One TV Volume Four DVD. It is a "behind the scenes" video featuring the show's voice actors. Two show-related questions are displayed and the voice actors will provide answers. Technical aspects of the show like how the sound effects are recorded are also interspersed between the voice actors' comments. On the official Mondo website, this video used to be listed under the Happy Tree Friends Break playlist during the Atom iteration, even though it does not have the Break intro.

Synopsis[edit]

Happy Tree Friends website and YouTube: Find out the answers to the burning HTF questions you’ve always wondered about. Who better to answer whether Flaky is a boy or a girl than the actual voice of Flaky?[2]

Transcript[edit]

Winn: ...break out a huge sweat, um, completely physically exhausting and I can't really speak the next day. Yeah. That's an ordeal. That's, uh, that's Happy Tree Friends.

Scene from "Tongue in Cheek" is shown to demonstrate how a toy robot is used as the sound effect for Sniffles' ant robot. This is followed by Kenn Navarro explaining the flow of the ambulance scene from "Concrete Solution".

What do you think happened to Pop's wife?

Carr: I bet she probably has a gambling problem. She's probably still in Vegas livin' off change she finds on the floor. Pop's just given up looking for the crazy woman. She's finally just gone, and, uh, he's just never gonna tell Cub what happened to the crazy woman.

Lorber: ...question. I'm thinking that Pop's wife probably got, you know, killed, really early on before, you know, the Happy Tree Friends ever came to be. She was sorta like the precursor to the Happy Tree Friends saga. So, you know, before the slicing and dicing even occurred she already had been mutilated in so many ways that we couldn't even bring her back.

Lippy: And, you know, I'm one of the old guard, one of the old guys, so I got a daughter, I have a kid, and they keep givin' me Pop and Cub, and so I'm putting all those pathos in there and I show it to Kenn. Aw, Lip, what did you do? Look at Poppy, so sad, isn't it, Kenn? You know he would be broken up about this. So, um, what happened to his wife I think I'm sure it was some horrendous bloody disgusting, maybe it was a... maybe a battery went awry. That's all I say.

Connell: Uh. I'm not sure what-I'm not sure what happened to Pop's wife but she may have left him because (chuckles) he's gotten the baby killed so many times now. I doubt she can handle it anymore. Um, I wouldn't trust him very much with my child.

Winn: I don't know the story. I think he killed her.

A voice acting session featuring Lippy is shown.

Flaky, boy or girl?

Connell: I-I'm not sure! You know, because some of the voices that I know are done by men, some very feminine, so it's hard to say.

Lippy: Is Flaky boy or girl? I think Flaky is a metrosexual Happy Tree Friend. I think Flaky can go either way, but not many people would rather him/her go that way. Eh, you know... (incoherent mumbling)

Carr: Flaky's a girl. There's just no way, Flaky's gotta be a girl.

Winn: Flaky is a hedgehog.

Lorber: Flaky is definitely a girl. ...As you can see. (does the Flaky voice, before laughing)

Lippy: Oh, man... That goes in-That goes in the OUTTAKE!
