"Pop & Corn" is one of the Happy Tree Friends Break shorts. It recycles animation from Happy Tree Friends & Friends, from the "we're back" bumpers. In this version, the Break logo takes the series' logo's place but with the "break" part crossed out and "is dead!" scribbled under it, causing it to read "Happy Tree Friends is dead!" Despite the similar theme to other Break shorts of this type, "Pop & Corn" lacks the Break intro sequence. The name refers to the food in the episode and Pop, a character who appears in it.

This short became unavailable on the official Mondo website in late 2012, along with a few other Break shorts, before the remaining ones came, starting in late 2014. There is no official upload of this short on MondoMedia's YouTube channel.

Plot[edit]

Cub has run out of popcorn, so Pop gives him his. Cub stuffs a large amount of popcorn into his mouth, munching before choking. Cub tries but fails to get his Pop's attention, and his face turns blue as he dies from asphyxiation. Pop shushes him, unaware of his death. The tub of popcorn's label reads, "Happy Tree Friends is dead!"

Trivia[edit]

  • The previous Break short, "Bite Sized", was mistakenly labeled with the title of this short with its upload to YouTube. MondoMedia would fix the title, though "Pop & Corn" was never officially released on YouTube.
  • There are a few differences between this version and the original Happy Tree Friends & Friends bumper, other than the change to the widescreen format and the removal of the TV series logo.
    • The Break version of the clip is more prolonged than the original, showing Cub feeling sad over an empty tub of popcorn and Pop giving his popcorn to him.
    • The bumper version ends with the tub of popcorn back in Pop's hands as he eats, while the Break version shows a close-up of the popcorn tub in front of Cub.
  • "Pop & Corn" is one of the Happy Tree Friends shorts without blood and gore whatsoever.
