Epic Comments is a miscellaneous Happy Tree Friends video released on MondoMedia's YouTube channel on November 10, 2012. This video is a collaboration with Mick Lauer (ricepiratemick), a Newgrounds animator, who created, voiced, and animated the entire video. The music is provided by Symphony of Specters.[1]

According to Mick Lauer[2], the featured comments in question were taken from IMDb. Specifically, it was a review by Agelencis for the Happy Tree Friends: Volume 1: First Blood DVD, made on November 27, 2005[3], but Lauer hid the name and altered the date. This review was displayed in the video as a YouTube comment on a fake YouTube page showing a nonexistent Happy Tree Friends episode titled "Japanese Tentacle Pals" where Agelencis' name is used but blurred out. "Japanese Tentacle Pals" is based on the Japanese animation stereotype where hentai tend to involve tentacles. Mick Lauer is known for anime-inspired animations, thus the joke.

Synopsis[edit]

YouTube:
This poignant, excruciatingly detailed, well-composed review of "Happy Tree Friends" was pulled from a recent issue of The New York Times. Wait...no. The internet. It was pulled off of the internet. Everyone should be slow clapping right now.

Created, Voiced, and Animated by Mick Lauer / ricepiratenewgrounds

Music by Symphony of Specters

Transcript[edit]

The following animation is based on an actual comment.

(fake YouTube page is scrolled down to show Agelencis' comment)

Lauer: Oh look! Somebody said something about Happy Tree Friends.

(animation starts)

Lauer: I thought HTF was gonna be a cute and adorable little comedy. But it wasn't.

(a Happy Tree Friend is crushed by the next text)

Lauer: I was shocked and disgusted (the Happy Tree Friend now injured and with skull forced out the side pops up) with what I saw. (the Happy Tree Friend is decapitated by the word "saw")

(the now-headless Happy Tree Friend falls down to the next text)

Lauer: Outrageous blood and gore. Then they have the nerve to put a warning saying "not for children or big babies". Ha! Don't be fooled by the cute little creatures.

(Giggles throws a saw blade at Cuddles, who ducks away)

Lauer: On every episode something extremely (Flaky's head is hit by the saw blade) horrific and tragic happens to them.

(Cub's face is sliced off)

Lauer: Or one of them is naked. And definitely don't let your kids see it. (the computer screen reads, "I mean... we're all kinda... like, naked...")

Lauer: If you are squeamish and you don't like blood, gore, violence, and torture

(Mole is shown holding a knife and a saw)

Lauer: then don't watch this trash.

ricepiratenewgrounds then types "Looks like someone was fooled, big baby. lololololol" and posts it as a reply to Agelencis' comment.

References to other media[edit]

  • The first top comment is by a user named slenderman and reads, "Who would win? Chuck Norris or Batman?"
  • The second top comment reads, "Hey I'm grump, I'm not so grump." This is part of the intro for Game Grumps, a "let's play" web series.

Trivia[edit]

  • The featured comment is a slightly altered version of Agelencis' review. The full review text was written as the following:

I thought HTF was gonna be a cute and adorable little comedy. But it wasn't.

I was shocked and disgusted at what I saw. Outrageous blood, and gore. Then they have the nerve to put a warning saying "Not for children or big babies". Ha!

Don't be fooled by the cute little creatures. On every episode something extremely horrific and tragic happens to them (or one of them is naked). And definitely don't let your kids see it.

If you are squeamish or you don't like blood, gore, violence, and torture then don't watch this trash.

  • The fake Happy Tree Friends episode "Japanese Tentacle Pals" is supposedly three minutes and forty-six seconds in length, has nine million, nine hundred, ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred, ninety-nine views with two billion likes and no dislikes, and has its video information intentionally absurdly written:
    • It was uploaded to MondoMedia's channel on April 1, 1786.
    • It has 2 billion likes and no dislikes.
    • Its video description reads, "Watch all your favorite episodes right here on the internet, for FREE! That's right! Unlike the boob-tube, you can watch whatever you want, whenever you want, right from the comfort of your very own computer or internet enabled mobile device. Also, people with lots of long thick nose hair look like they have spiders packed up inside their nostrils."
    • Though not directly related to the "episode" itself, one of the top comments has the timestamp "2 days from tomorrow".
