"Science is seriously satisfying!."
— Sniffles's starring intro, Season 3 of Happy Tree Friends

Sniffles is a highly intelligent anteater who loves performing math equations. He has an extraordinary ability to create highly functional machines, but they tend to almost always backfire, killing both him and other characters. He often gets himself in wars with The Ants and it results in the latter brutally maiming the former.

Concept and creation[edit | edit source]

Sniffles wasn't always an anteater. Initially, a nerdy character with huge glasses was a squirrel, but later in development, the creators decided to change the species to an anteater. [1] Sniffles was originally planned to have his snout placed under his snout but the creators decided to change it to be on the tip of it. [2]

Happy Tree Friends: Run and Bun[edit | edit source]

Sniffles is an obstacle in this game. He is seen driving an ambulance. If the player runs into him, the player will be killed.

Straindead

Sniffles plays a role as a supporting protagonist in the game's story. Sniffles, while he and other characters are stranded on an island, comes up with an idea to slingshot themselves to safer land. He, alongside the others, suggests Giggles goes first. If Giggles dies and the player fails the game or the player succeeds, a game over screen will pop up and Sniffles will be seen holding an organ.

Happy Tree Friends: Aggravated Asphalt[edit | edit source]

Sniffles play a role in the game as an obstacle. If Flippy's evil side runs into him, Sniffles will be sliced in half and killed.

Happy Tree Friends: Deadeye Derby[edit | edit source]

Sniffles makes an appearance in this game as a boss for two sections. Firstly, the tutorial, and secondly, as the first boss. For the tutorial, he's simply a test boss, functioning practically the same as a normal opponent. As a boss, however, he differentiates himself from a normal character. For the first phase of his fight, he'll seal himself into a glass and the player must slingshot it enough times to shatter the glass. Once it's destroyed, Sniffles is now vulnerable. Sniffles will now summon tiny machines that will shoot the player with lasers. The player can shoot them before they release their amino. Once he has been defeated, one of the machines will shoot a laser at him, slicing off the front of his body.

Biography[edit | edit source]

General information[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Sniffles can be described as a geeky anteater who is remarkably smart. Sniffles is a genius who can create giant machines. However, most of his inventions frequently backfire and usually result in the deaths of himself or others. In addition, he is sometimes shown to be a bit of a mad scientist at times, such as the instance where he is mixing fluids that end up causing his death in the Sniffles Science Smoochie. He usually says "Ah Ha!" when he gets an idea for an invention. Additionally, Sniffles tends to be given various occupations that require a good amount of skill and experience, such as a pilot or a physician. However, despite his high IQ, he possesses an odd tendency to observe deaths with a vacant expression and subsequently overcome them.

Even though Sniffles is traditionally capable of constructing advanced technology and has been mostly regarded as a "nerd", his intelligence has been relegated to being comparable towards Lumpy's, usually because he frequently disregards any use of common sense and has rather poor planning skills. One example of this is I've Got You Under My Skin, in which Sniffles puts a timer on his shrinking submarine that determines how long he can stay microscopic. This is clearly a defective feature, since the device was designed to go inside Giggles as long as necessary. What's more, as the timer winds down, he doesn't even heed the attempt to turn it back and give himself more time. Another infamous example occurs during Party Animal, in where, while he is seen fleeing the area after Toothy was killed, it is unknown what he was doing during Cuddles, Nutty, and Mime's deaths, since he was later seen standing idle as if he was looking at the entirety of Flippy's massacre all this time. In the meanwhile of the evil side of Flippy's carnage, he had plenty of time to leave the house. He later uses a barrel filled with water as a hiding spot, almost causing him to drown, instead of simply running out of the house. This predicament forces him to give away his hiding spot by jutting his snout out of his water in order to breathe. Ultimately, the evil side of Flippy kills Sniffles by imprisoning him inside the barrel, stabbing it with many knives, and then rolling it down a hill.

Sniffles also has a very apparent craving for ants, obviously because he is an anteater. However, whenever he tries to eat one, they would maim him sadistically. The only successful attempt was in the episode Blast from the Past, in which Sniffles eats a prehistoric ant without suffering any repercussions.

Sniffles appears to be a fan of Star Trek, as in both Something Fishy and Remains to be Seen. He has also exhibited fondnesses of Splendid, being a very blatant geeky follower of his heroic duties, as seen in Wrath of Con and owns numerous merchandising containing the superhero's likeness, such as owning comics books in Suck It Up. In addition, his Myspace page notes that his idols are Albert Einstein, Spock, William Shatner, and Splendid.[citation needed]

Physical information[edit | edit source]

Sniffles is a blue anteater with a long snout and pointy ears. He is fairly notable for his relatively unique and differentiated appearance compared to most characters, as he lacks the buck-teeth and heart-shaped noses all of the other characters have. His snout has gotten shorter over the duration of the series, as it was initially shown to stop at his waist but has since been shortened to being nearly smaller than his entire head. The exact location of Sniffles' jaw is inconsistent. In certain episodes, such as Spare Me, his set of teeth appears to be placed within his head, as if he had two sets of jaws. However, other examples, such as Tongue In Cheek, have depicted his skull extending into his snout.

Sniffles also has a pair of glasses with tape keeping them together. Behind them, he appears to have normal Pac-Man eyes but in Tongue Twister Trouble, he is shown with beady eyes for a split second. He also wears a pocket protector. The pocket itself is shown to wield a red, purple, and blue pen.
